5 Random Tips to a More Sustainable Life!

  1. Bring your own tupperware when going out to eat. You probably won't finish all your food. The two mainstream solutions are to waste the food and have your server throw it away for you, or create waste by asking them for a single use plastic to-go container. Why not break those norms? Pack your own container in preparation for yummy leftovers.

  2. Freeze your fresh produce before it goes bad. Sometimes I buy more berries than I can handle. When I see my produce start to become squishy, before it molds I quickly throw it in my freezer in a big bag full of other saved goodies. I do this with bananas, berries, even the stems of my spinach leaves so that on some lucky mornings I can create a yummy smoothie to start my day with good energy.

  3. Stop putting food scraps in the trash. If you have land, compost. It's stupid easy, rewarding, and eco-conscious. If you're unable to compost, still throw your scraps outside. Why let something biodegradable and full of nutrients rot away, trapped forever in plastic? If you're going to guerrilla compost, though, you need to be mindful of a few things. Food attracts wildlife, so don't toss it anywhere near the road. Also, many humans see this as littering so be weary of public perception.

  4. Buy your neighbors eggs. One of your neighbors probably has chickens, support local! Saves your carbon footprint from the horrors of factory farming and semi-trucks.

  5. Mend your wardrobe. Rips can be sewn, holes can be patched, stains can be bleached and transformed anew. Develop a sense of respect and care for your belongings. Consumerism is unhealthy and lame. Sewing is punk rock.
